Founded in 1956, the Canadian Mental Health Association Kelowna and District (CMHA Kelowna) is part of Canada’s oldest national charity that helps maintain and improve mental health for all Canadians. As the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health, CMHA helps people access the community resources they need to build resilience and support recovery from mental illness.
At CMHA Kelowna, we are dedicated to Mental Health in our community. No matter how old or how young, we provide support for families and individuals through programs that promote positive mental health and support recovery, while championing the elimination of barriers that can prevent people from thriving. We are a dynamic, innovative and visionary organization. We are seeking individuals who share our vision of a mentally healthy Kelowna and are passionate about making a difference in our community by bringing their particular expertise to our organization.
In 2017, we launched Foundry Kelowna, an integrated Health and Social Services Centre for youth between the ages of 12-24 and their families. As part of a broader provincial initiative and network (www.foundry.bc.ca), Foundry Kelowna is designed to transform how young people and families get access to services. Foundry Kelowna unites over 25 partner organizations and practitioners to provide coordinated care in 5 core areas of service: Primary Care, Mental Health, Substance Use, Social Services, and Youth and Family Peer Support and Navigation. We are looking for a Family Support Facilitator to join our team at Foundry and help to develop, expand, and enhance our range of supports to parents and caregivers of young people experiencing difficulties related to their mental health.
The Family Support Facilitator will be responsible for meeting individually with parents/caregivers to assess needs, provide parenting support and facilitate systems navigation. They will also organize, coordinate, and facilitate workshops and groups aimed at increasing parent’s awareness and understanding of the impacts of mental health on their youth/young adult, and strategies designed to manage themselves in the face of mental health issues within their families. The Family Support Facilitator will work in close contact with the CMHA Kelowna Family Navigator and Foundry Centre Manager to ensure supports to parents and caregivers are coordinated and linkages and service pathways are clearly articulated and understood.
