The Canadian Mental Health Association is one of seven organizations involved in BC Partners for Mental Health and Addictions Information. Other partners are Anxiety BC; the British Columbia Schizophrenia Society; the University of Victoria Canadian, Institute for Substance Use Research; Family Smart; Jessie’s Legacy; and the Mood Disorders Association of Canada. Together we support the Here To Help Project, which includes information about different mental illnesses.

Getting Help for Mental Illness

Although mental illnesses have a lot in common with each other, each type is quite different. Symptoms of mental illness can look different from person to person. Knowing if you need help and how to get it are important steps. Probably the best way to know if you might have a mental illness is if you’re not feeling, thinking or acting like yourself—or some of those the mentioned in the below.
