Tenant Support Worker – F/T Ellis Place

CMHA Kelowna is hiring a Tenant Support Worker (TSW) for our Ellis Place Supportive Housing program. This position is a full-time, 32 hours per week Friday- Monday  3:30pm to 11:30pm

 WHO IS A TENANT SUPPORT WORKER?

Tenant Support Workers within our organization provide assistance, support and basic life skills training to housing program residents. Ensuring the safety and security of the Program Participants and their living environment while encouraging independence, self-responsibility and the healthiest lifestyle possible will be critical to success in this role.

WHAT DOES A TENANT SUPPORT WORKER DO?

  • Provides feedback and input regarding participants’ needs, performance, and progress;
  • Monitors medication to participants and provides medication reminders, in accordance with established policy;
  • Participates in and oversees various participant-focused social and recreational activities;
  • Identifies available social, economic, recreational, and educational services and resources in the community that will meet participants’ needs. Provides participants with related information;
  • Assists participants with activities of daily living;
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as statistics, progress reports, and daily logs;
  • Receives participant feedback, and inquiries and complaints, and responds as required;
  • Perform housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, dusting, washing dishes, and laundry;
  • Performs outdoor residence maintenance as required;
  • Provides direction to volunteers/practicum students as required;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Grade 12 as well as a Diploma in Community Social Service or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience or other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work;
  • Certificates in CPR, First Aid, and Food Safe is considered an asset;
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position;
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize;
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in participants;
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with participants;
  • Ability to instruct;
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems;
  • Exceptional conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.

Wellness Programs Team Lead

This full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday to Friday, role oversees the daily operation and smooth functioning of CMHA Kelowna Wellness Programs.

WHO IS A WELLNESS PROGRAMS TEAM LEAD?

The Wellness Programs Team Lead engenders positive energy, creativity and teamwork among employees and provides a psychologically healthy and safe workplace. The Team Lead ensures that staff are trained, supported, and guided to achieve the best possible standards of practice.  The Team Lead also performs administrative duties including program related policy and procedure development, implementation, and ensure that services are delivered according to existing contractual agreements.

The following programs are currently under the umbrella of CMHA Kelowna Wellness Programs:

  • Wellness Development Centre
  • Peer Support Services
  • Wellness Grants
  • Seniors Programming
  • Consumer Development Project

WHAT DOES A WELLNESS PROGRAMS TEAM LEAD DO?

  • Supervise Wellness Programs staff by performing duties such as assigning work, providing feedback and evaluation, determining training requirements, orienting new staff, and maintaining timekeeping and attendance records. Resolve staffing problems, by allocating available resources to enable successful task performance and ensure maximum efficiency;
  • Ensure program operational policies and procedures are up to date and implemented;
  • Ensure contracted programs adhere to and exceed the funder’s contracted goals and objectives and report on these as required;
  • Lead the coordination and integration of CMHA Kelowna Wellness Programs, including the inclusion of People With Lived Experience (PWLE);
  • Build and expand upon relationships with community agencies, funders, business and the general community to strengthen and further the work of CMHA Kelowna Wellness Programming;
  • Create opportunities for collaboration within the community;
  • Coordinate evaluation processes to understand the impact of Wellness Programming and ensure continual improvement;
  • Implements and participates in activation, life skills, recreational, and/or social activities designed to meet the needs of program participants, providing demonstrations as required;
  • Adapts and modifies established activities to meet the unique needs of participants;
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as statistics, participant files, and honorariums;
  • Maintains an inventory of equipment, tools, and materials related to activities.

YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum diploma in social science or health profession and 3 years recent related experience in community-based program or service development or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum 1 year experience managing programs and staff;
  • Mental health education and training experience preferred;
  • Experience in empowering and advocating for the inclusion of people with lived and living experience;
  • Committed to equity, diversity, inclusion & trauma-informed practice;
  • Communication and coordination skills required;
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize;
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients;
  • Ability to supervise;
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems;
  • Skilled in de-escalation ;
  • Leadership skills;
  • First Aid certification, Food Safe and Naloxone training is considered an asset.

Outreach Navigator – F/T Term

 CMHA Kelowna has received term funding to expand Outreach Services to those experiencing homelessness in our community until March 2024, with the possibility of extension, based on funding. Monday-Friday. 8:30am-3:30pm.

WHAT DOES A OUTREACH NAVIGATOR DO?

A brief description of the work includes:

Increased Outreach to Those Sheltering Outdoors

  • To identify and engage those that are not camping at Recreation avenue, and unlikely to access other mainstream services
  • To assess the needs of these individuals, including those vulnerable to COVID with Early Detection and Screening methods
  • To ensure encampments not accessing Recreation Ave have access to extra survival and hygiene supplies, as well as increased attention to hand cleanliness
  • To ensure the food needs are being met to those who are sheltering outdoors and not accessing Recreation Ave.

 Increased Presence at Motel Sites

  • To engage with and support those who have been moved in motel through phone check ins, door knocks and referrals to appropriate resources
  • To assess the needs of these individuals, including those vulnerable to COVID with Early Detection and Screening methods
  • To support and liaise with the motel operators, attend to situations that need de-escalation/attention

YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-secondary education in social services or related field;
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in addictions and mental health is preferred;
  • Experience working directly at street-level with individuals experiencing homelessness is preferred;
  • Listens with sensitivity to other people’s feelings, needs, and point of view; demonstrates tact and courtesy in expressing options or ideas, and recognizing opportunities to enhance community relations.
  • Completes tasks in a timely and efficient manner, utilizing good organizational skills. Has the ability to manage multiple cases efficiently and effectively.
  • An understanding of harm reduction theory and demonstrated ability to implement harm reduction strategies;
  • An understanding of Intentional Outreach, Housing First, and Rapid Re-Housing principles;
  • Displays appropriate, professional, healthy boundaries and exercises mature judgment and understanding of safety concerns;
  • Adapts well to changing priorities and challenging individuals;
  • Valid class V driver’s license;
  • Criminal Record Check in the Vulnerable Sector is required;
